The Art Fund has launched the New Collecting Awards, an acquisition scheme for curators that will distribute £300,000 between the successful applicants.
The scheme aims to help curators develop their acquisitions and collections development skills. The grants are designed to help museums and galleries extend holdings into new areas or to deepen existing holdings.
New Collecting Awards recipients will also receive funding to support their own professional development, which they can spend on research, travel and training costs to support their proposed collecting plans.
The deadline to submit an expression of interest is 7 November. Selected curators will then be invited to make a formal application.
Arts Council England (ACE) and the British Council have unveiled a £1.5m fund for English artists and arts organisations to develop collaborations with counterparts in India. Re-Imagine India will offer grants of £15,000-£100,000.
There will be a second round of funding in 2016 and the arts council expects activity to peak during 2017, to mark the 70th anniversary of Indian independence.
ACE’s £1.5m investment is in addition to the British Council’s £5m Re:Imagine Arts programme, which runs from 2013-2017 and involves partners in the UK and India.
