Jonathan Stephens, the permanent secretary at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), is to leave his post at the end of this month.

Posting on the DCMS website, he wrote: “As the longest-serving permanent secretary in the department since it was established in 1992, I’ve decided that it is the right time for me to move on.”

Stephens has been responsible for the overall management of the department since October 2006. His departure follows the department’s move from Cockspur Street to share offices with the Treasury on Parliament Street, part of a 50% cut to the DCMS’s administrative budget during the current spending review.

As Museums Journal went to press, a replacement for Stephens had not been named.
