Everything seems hunky dory with the forthcoming David Bowie exhibition, which has attracted the highest-ever advanced booking for a Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) show.

Nearly 30,000 tickets have already been sold for the exhibition, which opens on 23 March and is the first international retrospective of the British-born singer’s career. It will feature more than 300 items spanning his five decades in music.

David Bowie is, which has been designed by film production company 59 Productions and exhibition designer Real Studios, was to close on 28 July but the V&A has extended its run to 11 August to help cope with demand.

The museum will also be operating late-night Saturday opening throughout the show (the V&A already opens late every Friday).

The V&A recently staged Hollywood Costume, which closed on 27 January and was its second most popular charging exhibition in the past 20 years. It attracted 251,738 visitors, only beaten by the 2003 Art Deco show.

Hollywood Costume sold 20,000 tickets prior to opening. The V&A also recruited 6,187 members during the show’s run, more than double the record for any previous exhibition.
