Arts Council England (ACE) has announced details of a capital programme for grants ranging from £100,000 to £499,999.

As this is part of ACE’s national lottery income, the grants must be for arts projects. National portfolio-funded organisations that can show the capital investment will increase their resilience in the long-term will be given priority.

But other organisations can apply if they get prior agreement from their regional arts council office. Museums and libraries are among those that are eligible, but they must show how their projects will contribute to the arts.

ACE has budgeted for £20m from the national lottery for small capital grants for the arts in England. There will be £12m available in the first round for 2012-13 and the deadline for applications is 30 October. Applications must be made online. A further £8m will be available in 2013-14.

This is an expansion of ACE’s current programme that offers capital grants of £500,000 or more.

In Northern Ireland, there is a new funding stream related to next year’s UK City of Culture celebrations in Derry/Londonderry.

The Big Lottery Fund and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland have joined forces to launch a £1.35m programme called Culture for All.

This is a small grants programme offering up to £10,000 to help community organisations in Northern Ireland to run arts and culture projects linked to the City of Culture.
