Arts Council England (ACE) has released details of two more funding streams under the Renaissance programme for museums in the English regions.
The Designation development fund supports collections of national and international importance that are held in England’s non-national museums, libraries and archives. There are 140 Designated collections.
The arts council wants to invest in projects that ensure the long-term sustainability of collections and maximise their public value and the sharing of best practice across the sector.
In the next three years, £2.1m will be invested in the Designation development fund projects over two rounds. Museums can apply for grants online and the deadline for applications for the first round is 24 July.
ACE has also announced details of its Renaissance strategic support fund. This supports specific areas of work and is designed for geographical locations that have no major partners (there are 16 major partner museums receiving a total of about £20m a year of Renaissance funding).
About £7m will be available for the first of two stages, in 2012-13. The arts council will commission bids from the East Midlands and Yorkshire, which have been highlighted as areas that would benefit from Renaissance support.
ACE will also work with organisations such as the Museums Association on projects on workforce and governance in 2012-13. Remaining funds for this period will be offered to Accredited museums to meet other strategic gaps.
In the second stage, up to £15m a year will be invested in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
