English Heritage will close its entire outreach programme as part of a post-spending review restructure (Museums Journal December 2010, p10).

The organisation had been consulting staff affected by the proposal. But a letter last month from head of outreach Miriam Levin to the Our Place heritage outreach network confirmed the closure.

It read: “As the result of the massive comprehensive spending review cuts, where English Heritage lost about a third of its grant-in-aid, one of the first victims of the cuts is the national outreach team.”

“As of 31 March, we will no longer be working with grassroots community groups to actively engage new audiences with heritage.”
