The Science Museum’s £100m redevelopment plan has moved forward after the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) pledged to support its Treasury Galleries.

The HLF has awarded the project a first-round pass, which gives the museum £342,000 of development funding to work on a full £6.34m bid.

The Treasury Galleries project involves converting  four floors into new galleries and are part of a wider £100m masterplan.

The museum has revealed that its £4m climate science gallery will open in November, five months after the revamped Who am I? and Antenna galleries.

The HLF also awarded first-round passes to two other projects: National Museums Cardiff’s plan to make a £8.7m bid to redevelop St Fagans open-air museum; and Calderdale Council’s proposal to use a £7m grant to redevelop Piece Hall, a Grade I-listed building in Halifax.
