Aberdeen Art Gallery’s 125th anniversary celebrations have been boosted by the news that it is one of six organisations to receive £40,000 from the latest round of funding under the Scottish government’s Recognition scheme.

Recognition, which was set up in 2007 and is managed by Museums Galleries Scotland, supports 36 nationally significant museum and gallery collections.

Aberdeen City Council will use the money to improve the display of its artworks, some of which will feature in a temporary exhibition celebrating the gallery’s anniversary.

The University of St Andrews’ Recognition grant will support the appointment of a project officer to develop an open access store, while the National Trust for Scotland will use the £40,000 it has been awarded to create a collections database.

Also receiving Recognition funding are Perth and Kinross Council, the Scottish Mining Museum Trust  and the Auchindrain Trust.
