Arts Council England (ACE) has announced the third round of awards from its £40m Sustain fund for organisations that are under financial pressure during the recession.
Among the 18 arts organisations that benefited last month were Yorkshire Sculpture Park (£1.45m); De La Warr Pavilion, East Sussex (£370,000); and Newlyn Art Gallery, Cornwall (£92,650). ACE has now allocated £13m from its £40m pot.
"We are dealing with applications as quickly as possible, and we have already had requests for well over the amount available," said an ACE spokeswoman.
There is still money in the fund and organisations can apply until the money runs out. Applicants must be charities or have not-for-profit status and local authorities are not eligible.
Museums Sheffield was among 10 organisations refused Sustain funding last month. There are 136 applications requesting a total of £31m still under consideration. All awards are one-offs and cover the period 2009-11.
There are two main criteria: organisations must be primarily focused on creating, presenting or producing art; and they must show they are suffering as a result of the recession. The minimum that can be applied for is £75,000, as Sustain is aimed at key arts bodies.
Smaller organisations might be better off looking at ACE's Grants for the Arts programme, which offers grants of between £1,000 and £200,000. This will soon benefit from a simplified application process, meaning that new applications will be suspended between 18 January and 26 February.
