The row over the capital allocation for national museums and galleries rages on, with many museums unclear how much they can spend this financial year.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) revealed last month that it has a £100m shortfall in its capital budget. This could jeopardise projects such as Tate 2 and the British Museum development, as well as putting routine maintenance and building work at other national museums at risk.
Spokeswomen for the Natural History and Victoria and Albert museums said they were awaiting confirmation of their capital allocations for 2009-10 and 2011-12.
A DCMS spokeswoman said: "Our capital budget is overcommitted. Ministers are examining the reasons for this and looking for solutions. It is possible that difficult decisions will be needed, but none have been taken yet."
The British Museum North West Development received a further blow last month when it was refused planning permission by Camden council. The museum is now considering whether to appeal.
