Charity downturn guide
The Charity Commission has published a checklist of 15 questions as guidance for charity trustees, including museum board members, during the economic downturn. The list, Big Board Talk, covers strategy, financial health, governance, and making best use of resources.
New equality targets
The Government Equalities Office has set new targets on gender, disability and ethnicity for appointments to public bodies, including museums and galleries. By 2011, the Opening Doors-Increasing Diversity plan aims for 50 per cent of appointments to be women, 14 per cent to be disabled people and 11 per cent from ethnic minorities.
Northampton hours cut
Two Northampton museums have been forced to cut their opening hours following a budget squeeze by Northampton borough council. Northampton Museum & Art Gallery is now closed every Monday, while the Abington Park Museum, pictured above, shuts for two days a week between April and October, remaining open from Thursday to Sunday.
Take an iPhone art tour
Works by Leonardo and Van Gogh feature in Love Art, a new application that allows iPhone and iTouch users to browse 250 paintings in London's National Gallery. Three hours of video and audio content include interviews with artist Maggi Hambling and gallery director Nicholas Penny.
