The National Trust for Scotland (NTS) has refuted claims that it could merge with the National Trust.
A spokesman for trade union Prospect said it had received a letter from the NTS stating that the NTS board had given "serious consideration" to the merger.
But an NTS spokeswoman said: "In examining how best to secure its finances for the future, the board considered many options, including a closer partnership with other organisations in the sector. No formal proposals are on the table and there is no plan to involve the National Trust in England."
Meanwhile, a group of NTS members, who were not consulted on plans to close properties, is campaigning for the trust to hold an extraordinary general meeting.
