The recession has led torestructuring and redundancies at Hull and Leeds city councils.
Simon Green, assistant head of service for culture and lifestyle with responsibility for heritage at Hull City Council, said the posts of head of professional services and curator of Guildhall had been deleted, while the keeper of maritime and keeper of social history have been replaced by a new post covering both roles.
He added that the changes would result in savings of more than £70,000 year on year, although the driving force behind them was to make the service more efficient and to better align culture to the council's priorities.
A spokesman for Leeds City Council said it was too early to say whether any of the 650 roles across the council that had been proposed for deletion would come from the museums service.
Any redundancies will be announced in June, when consultation over voluntary redundancies is due to end.
Also in Leeds, Harewood House has deleted its post of head of collections, learning and access, and created a new post of acting head of house and collections. A spokesman said the move had not saved money, but had increased efficiency.
