The Museums Association (MA) has undergone a staff restructure, making three posts redundant, to meet losses of £250,000 in 2008-09. The restructure, which came into effect last month, has led to the posts of head of events, systems manager and marketing assistant being made redundant.
Caitlin Griffiths now heads a department covering professional development, workforce issues, training and event production, while deputy director Maurice Davies will oversee policy, programmes and the content of the MA's annual conference.
The head of publications, Sharon Heal, takes over responsibility for the programming of one-day conferences.
MA director Mark Taylor said: "Our greatest strength is our independence from government funding, although it means that, as the recession bites, we suffer the vagaries of the market. The restructure means that we are in a stronger financial position for the future, and while people in museums are also facing difficult times, we can continue to provide leadership to the sector.
"The restructure will allow us to continue to offer services at a high standard, as well as introducing new services, such as an extended training programme and an enhanced AMA scheme, that will support our members better in these troubled times.
"Our members' needs, now more than ever, remain at the heart of all MA activities."
