The Holocaust (Stolen Art) Restitution Bill, a private member's bill mooted by Andrew Dismore and backed by nine other MPs, will receive a second reading on 15 May.
If passed, national museums would be able to deaccession from their collections objects stolen by the Nazis between 1933 and 1945.
Dismore said the government had made sympathetic noises about the bill. But he said a private member's bill seeking to amend the British Museum Act 1963 to allow the Parthenon Marbles to be sent to Greece, was unlikely to receive government backing.
A Department for Culture, Media and Sport spokesman confirmed that it had yet to take a view on the restitution bill, but was opposed to the British Museum Act 1963 (Amendment) Bill.
