The director of the Wedgwood Museum in Barlaston, Stoke-on-Trent, is "confident the institution will survive" despite the announcement that the Waterford Wedgwood group had gone into administration.

Gaye Blake Roberts insisted that the museum "remains fully operational and open to the public as normal".

The museum's website stated: "Despite our close links and the fact that we share its Barlaston home, the [museum] trust is organisationally and financially independent of Josiah Wedgwood & Sons."

The £10.5m museum, which houses more than 6,000 ceramics, opened in October with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Advantage West Midlands.

Administrator Deloitte confirmed as Museums Journal went to press that three buyers had expressed an interest in buying all or part of the 250-year-old china and crystal firm.
