Minister for culture Margaret Hodge has pledged to do everything that she can to ensure that the Coors Visitor Centre becomes a national museum of brewing.
"I will write to every brewer in the country asking them to support the formation of a national museum of brewing," she said. "I will also ask that they support it financially."
Meanwhile, a steering group chaired by MP Janet Dean and chief executive of MLA West Midlands, Jon Finch, has appointed Jura Consultants to do an options appraisal for the centre.
The group is also looking at ways to maintain the Burton-on-Trent centre's shire horses.
