The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead has appointed an interim chief executive who will oversee the recruitment process for a head of the troubled institution.
Ivor Stolliday, chief executive and secretary of the Dartington Hall Trust until he retired last year, will "help shape the centre's future and lead on the development of a new business plan", according to a spokeswoman for Baltic.
"Baltic's day-to-day management remains in the hands of Andrew Lovett, director of corporate resources," she added.
The appointment of Stolliday follows a turbulent year for the gallery. Former director Peter Doroshenko resigned last November to take up the post of artistic director of the Pinchuk Art Centre in Kiev, Ukraine.
His departure came only months after a staff survey found that many felt his directorial style caused "concern and fear".
