Holburne gets green light
The Holburne Museum of Art in Bath has received the go-ahead for a modern extension to its Georgian building. Discussions between the museum and Bath and North East Somerset Council had hit a difficult point, but late last year the council approved a revised planning application. The museum can now go ahead and continue fundraising for the £10m project.
Foundling names fellows
The Foundling Museum in London has named sculptor Richard Wentworth (above), musician Damon Albarn and author Jacqueline Wilson as its first Foundling Fellows. The initiative aims to invigorate the links between children and the museum. The museum wants the fellows to "develop original, creative initiatives for children".
Dumfries House saved
The SAVE campaign to secure Dumfries House in Cumnock, East Ayrshire, and its contents for the public has concluded with the creation of the Great Steward of Scotland's Dumfries House Trust to preserve the building. The Art Fund gave £2.25m to the campaign, while other sponsors included the Prince's Charities. The house is to open this summer.
Edinburgh gallery grant
The Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh has received £5m from the Scottish government towards its £17.6m redevelopment project. The gallery has already secured £5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The redevelopment aims to maximise public space and create new photographic display and storage facilities.
