Art donation from BBC
BBC Scotland has donated its collection of contemporary art to Glasgow City Council's museums service. The decision follows the broadcaster's relocation to purpose-built facilities on the River Clyde. The collection, valued at £100,000, includes works by artists such as Peter Howson, Ken Currie and Alison Watt.
New museum for Leith
The developer behind a 30-year regeneration of Leith, Forth Ports, has agreed that a museum can be included in the plans. Community leaders and politicians have been campaigning for a museum that would chart the history of the area, as well as celebrating the achievements of locals such as The Proclaimers and Irvine Welsh (above).
NWM launches website
National Museum Wales has launched a website that reveals many of the treasures "hidden" in Wales's seven national museums. Rhagor, which means "more", features more than 100 illustrated articles about items that are used for expert research or are too fragile to be exhibited in galleries.
MLA grant incentive
Museums are being invited to apply for cash to develop programmes and events to promote the understanding of conflict. Grants of between £500-£10,000 are being made available by the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. Ideas should cover children and young people, or inter-generational learning. Closing date for applications is 19 October.
