Cornwall Museums Partnership has set up the Museums Immersive Network as a way of sharing learnings from Wave, an immersive experiences project. The network will disseminate and promote best practice, developments, training and collaborations between museums, tech firms and universities.
Immersive technology allows us to interpret our collections and share our stories in new, accessible and interesting ways. We hope that the Museums Immersive Network will support the establishment of immersive technology across the sector, boosting confidence in working with tech businesses to create new experiences for our communities. Augmented, virtual and mixed reality, as well as artificial intelligence, haptics and holography, offer a host of possibilities for museums.
The network will address themes such as decolonisation, empathy, accessibility and the “no-touch museum” through monthly podcasts and biannual webinars. Lockdown has proved that technology will play an increasing role in the future of the sector, and we need to embrace immersive technology.
Our hugely successful and oversubscribed first webinar can be found on Cornwall Museums Partnership’s YouTube channel. Contact me at amy@cornwallmuseums partnership.org.uk if you would like to participate in a podcast or webinar.
