Yorkshire Museum has launched an “Adopt an Object” fundraising scheme centred around its recently opened exhibition, Viking North.
There are 14 objects to choose from, including the newly acquired Thor’s Hammer Pendant, a small silver hammer featuring a gold hammer inlay, which is on public display for the first time in the exhibition.
The Vale of York Hoard and Bedale Hoard are also on the list, both of which contain a global range of objects such as Irish silver bracelets, Russian neckrings, coins, a silver gilt vessel, gold brooches and silver ingots.
The York Helmet, Sigurd Grave Stone, a Viking silk cap, a bone plaque, the Bedale Hoard, and Jet Gaming Pieces for the game Hnefetafl are among the other items up for sponsorship.
The scheme has two tiers and sponsorship is valid for a year. For £25, adopters receive a personalised digital certificate and for £50 they receive a personalised printed certificate.

There is no limit on how many people can sponsor a single object and no limit to how many objects one person can support.
A spokesperson said that money raised through the scheme will help care for the collections and the trust’s buildings as well as helping to fund activities such as the museum’s public programme.
Entry to Viking North is included in the general admission ticket to Yorkshire Museum. The exhibition tells the story of the Viking Age in the North of England from 866 to 1066.
