Nottingham’s Industrial Museum will reopen next month as a volunteer-run site.
Under new plans drawn up by the city council, the Wollaton Park venue will open at weekends and on bank holidays.
A council spokeswoman said the centre would be “self-sufficient through a small admission fee”.
Training for volunteers on how to run the centre will be supported by a grant of £66,000 from the Adult and Community Learning Fund administered by the Skills Funding Agency.
The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council provided £5,000 towards the scheme, while Nottingham City Council gave £20,000.
