The Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (MLA) has commissioned a review of museum development provision, which will be published next month.
The Renaissance Review, which was released in July, found that the work of museum development officers had a big impact on the wider museum community, but that there were significant gaps in provision. It recommended the creation of a national network of museum development officers (MDOs).
The MLA responded by saying it would review provision and "explore the potential of a national strategic framework for museum development activity".
Current provision varies by region, with MDOs funded and managed through hubs, or funded by local authorities and other sources.
