Entry to the Associateship of the Museums Association (AMA) professional development scheme will not require formal qualifications from 1 October.
Previously, graduates from museums studies courses qualified for "fast track" entry to the scheme. But the same registration procedures will now apply to all candidates.
The move ensures that the AMA is open to anyone working in or for the cultural heritage sector.
"I recommend that graduates from recognised courses or those with an NVQ level 4 or 5 in cultural heritage consider applying before 30 September," said Charlotte Holmes, museum development officer at the Museums Association.
