The festival, involving 50 galleries, includes an exhibition of "studiowork" by the late German-born artist Eva Hesse at the Fruitmarket Gallery (5 August-25 October) and sculptures and drawings from 1965 by US minimalist John McCracken at Inverleith House (6 August-11 October). A 16mm film co-produced by Rosalind Nashashibi and Lucy Skaer is on at doggerfisher gallery (1 August-26 September).

Brooches, bracelets and rings by established and emerging South Australian jewellers such as Sun Woong Bang, Julie Blyfield and Jane Bowden are on show. The practitioners are associated with the JamFactory contemporary craft and design centre in Adelaide.
Crombie: the Story of a Textile Mill, Provost Skene's House, Aberdeen

The J&J Crombie company, which produced coats worn by British officers during the first world war, among other things, has played a pivotal role in the development of Aberdeen since it opened a wool mill in the city in 1805. This display of garments charts the history of the luxury cloth and wool firm.
The Manchester Indian: Thomas Wardle and India, the Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester

This show marks the centenary of the death of Sir Thomas Wardle, a 19th-century silk dyer who owned two print works in Leek, Staffordshire. Saris collected by Wardle in India in 1885-86 are on display along with fabrics printed and dyed by his company.

This exploration of the symbolism and meaning of the colour white uses works from the Arts Council Collection. Artists featured among the 42 works include Keith Coventry, Martin Creed, Andy Goldsworthy and Tania Kovats. Caroline Douglas, the head of the Arts Council Collection, curated the show.
Portable Antiquities: the public contribution to Anglo-Saxon archaeology, Gallery 3, Ipswich Town Hall Galleries

To mark 10 years since the Portable Antiquities Scheme began in England, this lecture by Laura McLean, finds liaison officer for Essex, will explore how public finds are changing knowledge of Anglo-Saxon England.

This exhibition of works by the German painter is part of the Artist Rooms scheme, which will see contemporary and postwar pieces from the dealer Anthony d'Offay go on display at 18 venues across Britain. Artist Rooms is owned and managed by the Tate and National Galleries of Scotland.
