The Maritime Museum in Ramsgate, which closed last autumn, is to reopen this summer following the announcement of a rescue package led by the Preston-based Steam Museum Trust.
Under the terms of a deal to be signed by Thanet District Council this month, the trust will maintain the museum building and collection. The council has offered a three-year rent-free period.
The Maritime Museum and Margate Museum, which remains closed, were run by the East Kent Maritime Trust. The trust had its £100,000 annual council grant withdrawn last year.
