New site for museum
The Museum of Computing, which was forced to close last summer when its landlord, the University of Bath, vacated its Swindon site, has been offered new premises in the Wiltshire town. Swindon borough council is providing a three-year lease to the museum to house its 2,500 objects from this month.
Art Fund adds web forum
The Art Fund has set up an online forum for museum and gallery professionals to comment on issues that affect or concern them. It follows the charity's first nationwide survey assessing how museums and galleries are faring in the recession.
Bletchley refused funds
Bletchley Park Trust's appeal for support with its running costs has been turned down by the government. The appeal was made to the House of Lords by Baroness McIntosh of Hudnall. The house's government spokesman rejected the petition, saying the trust is already in receipt of investment from English Heritage and its local council. The trust said it was "disappointed".
Military heritage boost
An anonymous donor has pledged a sum, reportedly £1.4m, to the Soldiers of Oxfordshire Trust to allow it to build a dedicated military museum in Woodstock, on the site of the Oxfordshire Museum. The construction of the £4m museum is expected to start in 2010, with a tentative opening date scheduled for 2012.
