Collecting consultation

Arts Council England published its draft strategy for public collections of contemporary art last month. The strategy is open to consultation until 19 June and the full report will be published in the autumn. The Museums Association is holding a one-day conference in November to discuss the implementation of the strategy, Reflecting the contemporary.

Brewery museum bids fail

Two bids to run the national brewery museum have been rejected by its owner. Molson Coors Brewing Company turned down a proposal by Christian International Ministries because of concerns about commercial viability, while a bid by a local businessman was rejected because he wanted a longer lease than was being offered.

Scottish castles scheme

An initiative spearheaded by Historic Scotland aims to identify castles and tower-houses in need of restoration. The aim of the scheme is to encourage investment in Scotland's built heritage during the recession. An online register of prospective buildings is planned, as well as a history of castle restoration in the country.

Art Fund shortlist

The four nominees for the Art Fund Prize 2009 are: the Centre of New Enlightenment at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Glasgow; Orleans Houses Gallery, Twickenham; Ruthin Craft Centre, Denbighshire; and the Wedgwood Museum in Stoke-on-Trent. For the first time, a public poll will account for one of the eight votes. The winner will be announced on 18 June.
