The Museums Association (MA) has been awarded £140,000 by the Monument Trust to continue its fellowship scheme.
A dozen more fellowships will be created for recently retired specialists willing to pass on their knowledge.
The funding will also cover a series of masterclasses in which experts will discuss specific aspects of collections, and training for museums to carry out their own succession planning. The two-year scheme will begin in January 2010 and offer six fellowships a year.
The MA will be commissioning an independent evaluation of the scheme, to report in the autumn, which will feed into the next funding round.
