There is lots of enthusiasm for sustainability but at the moment, "it all looks a bit undirected", said Helen Wilkinson, projects officer at the Museums Association.
The comment came as the MA published the results of its sustainability consultation. Wilkinson said the report shows that museums in general "lacked the confidence to approach the issue head on".
The MA will be working with the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council and hub museums to offer practical guidance in the future.
