Forum seeks applicants

The National Culture Forum is seeking applicants for its second leadership programme, which takes place between September this year and July 2010. The scheme is aimed at local government heads of service (with cultural services within their remit) and senior managers of cultural services. The programme includes monthly one-to-one mentoring sessions with a senior local government official. For more information, email leadership@cloa.org.uk

ICE library recognised

The library at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the London-based organisation which holds more than 130,000 titles, has received designated status from the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council. ICE is the 100th organisation to have received the award.

Uni textile centre to shut

The University of Southampton's Textile Conservation Centre (TCC) is to close on 31 October after plans to transfer parts to the University of Oxford's School of Archaeology fell through. The TCC Foundation trustees were set to meet as Museums Journal went to press, to discuss how the centre's work could be preserved.

Post office for Blists Hill

The British Postal Museum and Archive has teamed up with the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust in Shropshire to develop a replica working Victorian post office at the Blists Hill Victorian Town in Ironbridge. The joint venture has been partly funded by a £126,000 grant from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Wolfson Foundation.
