Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow is hoping it will be second time lucky as it has again made it on to the longlist for the Art Fund Prize.
The Centre of New Enlightenment at Kelvingrove is a £5m-plus educational and events programme designed "to use the collections, staff and space to inspire young people to succeed in their lives".
The Glasgow museum was shortlisted for the prize in 2007 for its redevelopment project.
Joining Kelvingrove on the longlist are: The Braid Arts Centre and Mid-Antrim Museum, Ballymena, County Antrim, a £20m new museum and arts centre exploring from prehistory to the present day; Outside the Box at the Museum of Reading, a community-wide loan box project; Scotland: A Changing Nation at National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh, a new permanent exhibition depicting life in Scotland; National Trust Museum of Childhood, Derbyshire; Orleans House Gallery, Twickenham development project; Rotunda, The William Smith Museum of Geology, Scarborough, a redevelopment of gallery spaces; Ruthin Craft Centre: Denbighshire for a new building; the Sackler Centre for Education at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; and the reopened Wedgwood Museum, Stoke-on-Trent.
Rosemary Ewles, the prize administrator, said: "The trustees are pleased that for the first time the whole of the UK is represented."
The judges of the prize include the film-maker David Puttnam (chairman), Robert Crawford, the former director general of the Imperial War Museum, and Turner Prize-winning artist Grayson Perry.
