The London Fire Brigade Museum may have gained a stay of execution after being threatened with closure.
The London Assembly was meeting as Museums Journal went to press and was likely to defer a decision on closure until March, following protests by the Fire Brigades Union and several offers to take it over, including one from the Worshipful Company of Firefighters.
Some members of the London Assembly are keen to close the museum as a cost-cutting measure. It attracts 6,000 visitors a year by appointment and has an annual budget of £84,000.
"It looks as if it will be deferred until March because they have not had time to look at the options," a source said.
