The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Newcastle has looked no further afield than Middlesbrough to fill its troubled director's post.
Godfrey Worsdale, director of the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (Mima), will become Baltic's fourth director since it opened in 2002 when he joins in November.
He follows Sune Nordgren, Stephen Snoddy and most recently Peter Doroshenko, who left this year after clashes with staff over his management style.
Worsdale, who started his career at the British Museum in the early 1990s, has been at Mima since 2002, overseeing the opening of a £14.2m gallery last year.
"I hope I can come in with a clean slate," he said. "I want to build a strong team and make staff feel valued."
