The Public suffers setback

The Public's interactive exhibition space has suffered further delays and is unlikely to open to paying visitors until the end of the month. A statement said the delay was down to technical problems. The Public opened in June - two years behind schedule and £17m over budget.

Kelvingrove hits 5m mark

Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has recorded its five millionth visitor since a £35m refurbishment in 2006. The Glasgow museum attracted 2.2 million visitors in the first year after reopening, aided by an exhibition featuring Kylie Minogue's stage costumes.

Art Fund Prize 2009

The £100,000 Art Fund Prize for museums and galleries is inviting submissions for 2009. The prize, which is open to accredited museums and galleries in the UK, aims to recognise and celebrate originality and excellence.

New museum given £11m

The Museum of Liverpool, which is being built at the city's Pier Head, has secured an £11m grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund to furnish its interior. The £70m building, which will have an elliptical staircase as its centrepiece, still needs £8m to finish construction and fit out galleries. The museum is scheduled to open in October 2010.

Collections designated

The University of Birmingham's Lapworth Museum of Geology and Compton Verney's collection of Chinese bronzes have received designated status from the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council.
