Asia Triennial, venues including the Chinese Arts Centre and Cornerhouse, Manchester

This inaugural festival of modern Asian art includes a display of sculptures at Manchester Art Gallery by Korean artists Gwon Osang and Choe U-ram. The Cornerhouse presents provocative, political works by five female artists living in India. None of the works featured in the festival have been seen in the UK before.
The Return of the Ivories and the Land of Peach Blossoms, Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield
12 April-4 October
This exhibition features more than 150 antique, carved ivories of animals, emperors and hermits dating from the 16th-20th centuries. The works are on show alongside an installation of a mythical housing development by modern Chinese artist Gayle Chong Kwan, which is made from used food packaging.
Paper Trail: Prints from the Merlini Collection, Estorick Collection, London

A selection of prints from the collection of the late Tuscany-based doctor Vito Merlini outline the development of Italian graphic art in the 20th century. Artists represented include Marino Marini, Giorgio de Chirico, Emilio Vedova and Carla Accardi.
Art in the Age of Steam, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool

More than 100 paintings, prints and photographs focus on themes such as social class divisions and the environment. The show examines the impact of early train travel and the birth of the steam locomotion on artists such as Claude Monet, Vincent van Gogh, Edward Hopper and Camille Pissarro.
Engaging Your Community: Putting Words into Practice, Causeway Museum Service, Northern Ireland

A seminar looking at how museums engage with their communities. Speakers will discuss how an institution's management structure and programming can encourage closer links with adult community groups. Conference workshops will include "exploring different faiths" and "representing the travelling community".
The Art of Italy in the Royal Collection: The Renaissance, The Queen's Gallery, Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh

The first of a two-part exhibition of 16th- and 17th-century Italian art. Focusing on the Renaissance, it will feature 74 works by Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Michelangelo and Raphael.
