Five museums have been short-listed for the Guardian's second Family-Friendly Museum Award.
This year's award, which is part of the Guardian's Kids in Museums campaign, is looking for the best temporary exhibition, event or activity.
The five shortlisted museums are: Compton Verney in Warwickshire; the Falmouth Art Gallery in Cornwall; the Museum of Farnham in Surrey; the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford; and the Wordsworth Trust, which runs Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum. The winner will be announced in July, after a panel of judges aged eight to 16 have assessed the shortlisted museums.
Dea Birkett, the Guardian columnist and the founder of the Kids in Museums campaign, said museums have been improving since last year's award, which was won by Killhope, the North of England Lead Mining Museum, in County Durham.
'The range of museums that are becoming family-friendly is increasing,' she said. The shortlist has been chosen from 300 museums suggested by Guardian readers and website users, and museums themselves.
