Artists Gilbert and George have spoken out against censorship in the museum world. Talking to Museums Journal they condemned attempts to remove works from their retrospective show that is currently touring Europe.
The show opens this month at the Castello di Rivoli in Turin and the artists said there had been particular unease about the picture Was Jesus Heterosexual? They said that they had offered to blank out one word from the title but asked: "Which word should it be?"
According to the artists, Tate Modern, where the show first opened in February, is the only gallery on the tour so far that had not raised objections to any of the work in the show.
