France: The Pompidou Centre in Paris has unveiled plans for a mobile museum that would visit rural and deprived areas. Architect Patrick Bouchain's adaptable design for the €3m 990 sq m structure comprises numerous interlocking triangle-shaped parts.

The new museum would host rotating, thematic shows with works displayed in glass and plastic encasements. Pompidou President Alain Seban said the new space would host three three-month-long displays each year.


India: The Scottish government has signed an agreement with the government of West Bengal to help renovate imperial buildings in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) with Scottish historical links.

These include Duff College, which is named after the educationalist Alexander Duff, and the Roxburgh Building, a Georgian mansion in the city's botanical gardens. A collaborative programme in conservation, digital archiving and curatorial development will also be launched.


US: The Strategic Air and Space Museum, near Omaha, has laid off six full-time employees and reduced its opening hours, as part of a spending squeeze. The museum will employ 12 full-time staff and close one day a week this winter.

Tax records show that the museum lost about $1.1m in both 2007 and 2008. Acting director Evonne Williams said "the utilities alone in a 30,000 sq m  building are enormous".


US: A Houston court has ruled in favour of the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, after the daughter of a late oil tycoon challenged his will. Alfred Glassell Jr, who founded Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Co, died last year, leaving about half of his $500m estate to the museum, according to a lawyer for the US institution. But his daughter Curry Glassell argued that the museum's lawyers pressured her father to change his will.


US: The non-profit Dia Art Foundation has announced that it will build a space in Chelsea, Manhattan, five years after it closed a venue in New York and decamped 60 miles to a converted National Biscuit Company box factory in Beacon. A Dia spokesperson said the new building would be "a utilitarian space designed for the experience of art".
