Ethics Committee members

We are looking for new committee members to join the existing committee in upholding the principles of the Code of Ethics and overseeing its effective and consistent operation.

The aim of the Ethics Committee is to:

  • Develop and champion the application of sound ethical principles and behaviours within the museum community
  • Give advice and guidance on ethical matters to the museum community, including MA Board and staff
  • Review the code and recommend to the MA Board amendments to the Code of Ethics, where necessary

The role involves attending approximately four online meetings per year and liaising as a committee via email and telephone. The role is not remunerated but expenses are reimbursed.

We are looking for senior museums professionals with:

  • Knowledge and experience of a Local Authority museum context
  • Lived experience of disability

We welcome applicants from museum professionals from all backgrounds and parts of the sector. We would particularly welcome applicants that have legal experience and people from a range of diverse backgrounds including people with disabilities, people of colour, people who identify as LGBTQI+ and people from a range of socio-economic and educational backgrounds. 

All applicants must be individual members of the Museums Association. Successful applicants will be asked to join the Museums Association if not already members.

AI and Ethics Expert Working Group members

We are recruiting experts to a working group to support the development of a resource to guide ethical decision making on AI in museums.

The aim of the working group is to:

  • Provide expertise on the ethical considerations and impacts of AI in the museum sector
  • Direct the scope of the resource on AI and ethics for the museum sector
  • Work with MA staff to create a resource to support the sector with ethical decision making on AI

The role involves attending approximately six online meetings per year and liaising as a working group via email and telephone. The role is not remunerated. Please see the group’s terms of reference for full details.
