The Heritage Fund’s three-year Digital Skills for Heritage initiative is leading the way for organisations of all sizes to upskill their digital capabilities.

Since early 2020, more than 8,200 individuals from organisations across the sector have benefited from free advice, resources and training to get to grips with topics such as content creation, social media and audience engagement.

Our goal is driving up digital capability. A vital aspect is understanding the digital landscape of the heritage sector, both during the uncertainties of Covid and as we look to how digital can help heritage innovate towards a more resilient future.

A report published last October following our UK-wide survey of Digital Attitudes and Skills for Heritage (Dash) revealed that employees, trustees and volunteers have different digital needs. It indicated how important it is to speak to your staff before embarking on a digital strategy, with 46% of volunteers saying they never discuss their digital skills with others.

Undertaking a digital skills audit will help your organisation identify its strengths, understand needs and set goals.

We hope the second Dash survey – the report is due in December – will support organisational understanding of the best use of resources in putting digital to work, providing vital insight into how we can continue to respond  to the sector’s needs.
