The Wallace Collection in London announced last month that Christoph Vogtherr is to be its next director.

Vogtherr, who is a curator at the Wallace and was the acting head of collections from 2008 to 2010, will take over the running of the national museum in October when director Rosalind Savill steps down. He is a specialist in 18th-century French painting.

Chairman of the trustees John Ritblat said: “Having run a fully international competition, it is very satisfying to find the right balance of scholarship and leadership from within the Wallace Collection itself.”
