Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust was on the point of taking over the running of Explosion, the Museum of Naval Firepower, as Museums Journal went to press.

The trust, which owns Portsmouth Historic Dockyard on lease from the Ministry of Defence and runs three of the site's attractions, was negotiating with Gosport Borough Council on the acquisition of the Priddy's Hard site.

Explosion, which is run by Gosport council, is open only at weekends, and had been under threat of closure.

The trusts proposes to introduce a summer waterbus service to link Portsmouth Historic Dockyard to Explosion and the Royal Navy Submarine Museum on the other side of the harbour.
