Phil Redmond has been appointed chairman of National Museums Liverpool and will take up the post from the beginning of this month. Redmond is the creative director of the Liverpool Culture Company, which is responsible for delivering the capital of culture programme this year.

He said: "For a Scouser, this is one of the greatest positions you could be offered and I'm really looking forward to having the opportunity to be involved in leaving behind one of the great legacies of Liverpool's time as European Capital of Culture: the new Museum of Liverpool."

Redmond takes over from Loyd Grossman, who quit as chairman of trustees in July.

Redmond is a keynote speaker at the Museums Association's conference in Liverpool (6-8 October).
