The Department for Culture Media and Sport was on the verge of announcing the new chairman of the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council as Museums Journal went to press.
It is understood that poet laureate Andrew Motion will take over as chairman when Mark Wood stands down in the summer. Motion has been poet laureate since 1999 and was editorial director at Chatto and Windus, and editor of Poetry Review before that.
