Only weeks after launching a £54m redevelopment plan for the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Manchester, director Ian Griffin has resigned.

A spokeswoman for MOSI said Griffin had stood down for "personal reasons".

Tony Hill, head of marketing and business development at the museum, is now the acting director.

He said Griffin's departure would have no impact on the redevelopment plan. "The bottom line is that it wasn't just down to one person. It was a team effort, and Ian was part of that team."

The project includes the creation of a road transport gallery and a revamp of the Air and Space Gallery.
