The remaining regional agency, Museums, Libraries and Archives (MLA) London, was officially wound up in April.
Andrew Holden, the interim director of the agency, becomes the new director of engagement for London.
He said that it made sense to integrate MLA London into the national body. “It frees up staff to spend more time with the sector,” he added.
Holden said there had been four redundancies, while other functions had been transferred. The museum development team moves to the London Museums Hub, and the training will be run by a private consultancy.
The other regional agencies were closed by April 2009, but a decision about MLA London’s future was delayed until negotiations with the Greater London Assembly (GLA) had taken place.
The GLA was a funder of the London regional agency and the mayor had the right to appoint the chair of its board. Under the new agreement, the mayor now has the right to appoint one trustee to the MLA’s national board Munira Mirza, the mayor’s cultural policy adviser, who was on the board of MLA London, has also been seconded on to the MLA’s national board.
