Tate Liverpool recruits new director
Helen Legg joins from Spike Island in Bristol
Helen Legg is to become the new director of Tate Liverpool and will take up her position in the summer.
Legg, currently the director of Spike Island in Bristol, has previously worked as a curator at Birmingham’s Ikon Gallery and has almost two decades of curatorial experience.
“Tate Liverpool has had a huge impact on me and I feel a strong affinity with the values of the organisation,” Legg said. “I look forward to working with colleagues and to deepening relationships with partners both locally and internationally to take the gallery into its next exciting phase.”
Legg is an external adviser to the Arts Council Collection acquisitions committee; a member of the Arts Council England South West area council; the chairwoman of the Visual Arts South West network; and an honorary visiting professor at the University West of England.
She was part of the selection committee for the British representations at the Venice Biennale 2017 and a judge for the Jerwood Drawing Prize 2017. In 2014 she was a judge for the Turner Prize and the Contemporary Art Society’s Museums Award, and in 2014 was a selector for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Artist’s Awards.
Tate Liverpool has been open since 1988 and attracts an average of 600,000 visits a year.
