The first round of the £30m Cultural Protection Fund is now open for applications.

Funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and managed by the British Council, the fund is designed to help create opportunities for economic and social development through the fostering, safeguarding and promotion of cultural heritage in conflict-affected regions overseas.

The deadline for the first round of the fund is 31 August and is only open to applicants with existing partners in the fund’s target countries. A further round will be launched on 1 September, which will be open to all.

The target countries are Afghanistan, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Palestinian Territories, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey and Yemen.

The fund is inviting applications for small grants of less than £100,000 and large grants of more than £100,000. The maximum grant for a single year is £500,000, but it is possible to apply for multi-year grants, up to a maximum of £3m.
